Ollie the Dreamer in Malaysia
We were lucky enough to have David Turner and Nilesh Mistry come and visit our class. David brought the story to life when reading it to us and we loved finding out about all the magical places Ollie went to in his dreams. My class were captivated by the outstanding, vivid illustrations and loved being drawn into such an imaginative world. We designed our own front covers for the story and the talented Nilesh showed us how to
draw Ollie. This story is a must-read for all those who love escaping the real world!

Review of “Ollie The Dreamer”, a children’s book by David Turner and Nilesh Mistry

I think this book successfully reaches out to its intended audience who I’m sure will be attracted and entranced with the artwork and storyline which are both simple yet exciting for children in the age group that the authors wish to reach.
I am very amazed by this book not only by its artwork but also the storyline, I really like the creativity and the great imagination of Ollie that the authors gave him, I am entertained and educated because I also don’t know the meaning of some words in the book, and I also think that after I read that book it helped me in gaining more creativity and imagination on things Ido.
My class were captivated by the outstanding, vivid illustrations and loved being drawn into such an imaginative world.

“Are you sitting comfortably?” 168 voices shouted
“Yes”. “Then I’ll begin!”
I’m a Governor of Park Hill Junior School but have a long association with Park Hill Infants School and knew the latter would love Ollie the Dreamer. The Head Teacher asked if I would read it to Years 1 and 2 after Assembly. Hence my very young audience aged 6 and 7 and a lifetime’s ambition realised when I asked my audience “Are you sitting comfortably”!
The children loved it and joined in as I read the book, showed the illustrations and asked questions to check that they were following the story. “How many legs has an octopus?”. Importantly, it had held their attention. The book was aimed at them and hit its target. Afterwards, the Head Teacher said “Thank you for that” I could hear the children laughing from my office”.
The school has more than 250 children who have more than 50 1st languages. It says a lot for the writing that they understood the humour and for the artist that they appreciated the drawings.
Finally, may I add that during the recent spell of very hot weather, I was so glad that I didn’t sleep under a duvet made out of chocolate with a marshmallow centre!

Beautifully told and beautifully illustrated - 'Ollie the Dreamer' is a triumph!
We both really enjoyed reading it (more than once) and we are convinced that success and sequels will follow. It has that essential ingredient; offering an imagined world that a child can enter, inhabit and explore (Swallows and Amazons, The Hobbit, The Famous Five, Dr Doolittle etc;).
Loved the chocolate duvet and the car that runs on ice-cream! What next? John & Michie HerbertFilm Producer/Scriptwriter and Grandfather.
